Cleaning Supplies Pt.2 | Carpet and Linen

You didn’t think I was going to leave it at hard surfaces, did you?! Of course not! I’ve got some additional cleaning products/secrets to recommend for cleaning the fabrics in your home as well!
My Go-To Tips for Cleaning Carpet in Your Home
When it comes to cleaning fabrics in your home, I always start with one of the biggest culprits—carpet. I swear by Folex for both carpet and upholstery. It’s one of those miracle products I always keep in my cleaning kit, especially because life with kids, pets, or a house full of guests tends to come with surprises.
Here’s the thing: catch stains early. The faster you act, the easier they are to lift. I always blot (never rub!) fresh stains with a clean cloth, then apply Folex directly to the spot. And don’t oversaturate—too much liquid can push the stain deeper or even damage the padding underneath.
For a deeper clean, I like to do a full carpet refresh every 6 to 12 months. Sometimes I’ll hire a local steam cleaning service (I always look for eco-friendly options), but I’ve also rented machines when I want to tackle it myself. If you entertain often or have a high-traffic home, it’s worth investing in a good-quality cleaner you can keep on hand.
Now, for all my fellow wine lovers—I’ve been there. Spills happen! Wine-O has been my go-to stain remover for years. It lifts red wine out of rugs and upholstery fast, and honestly, it’s saved more than a few of my favorite pieces.
At the end of the day, don’t let the fear of spills stop you from investing in the fabrics you love. With a few trusted tools and a little know-how, cleaning fabrics in your home becomes a quick, manageable part of protecting your investment—and your peace of mind.
Linen
Next up is linen! Now, if you know me, you know my number one rule… FABRICS FIRST! Why? Because fabrics are used for so many different things. They’re used for upholstery, drapery; the list goes on! So it’s essential to make sure your fabrics are always looking their best. And that includes linen as well. One of the reasons why I love linen so much is because it’s a natural fiber. On top of that, linen is incredibly strong, durable, absorbent, and reliable. There’s a reason we’ve been using linen for thousands of years.
When it comes to linen sheets, I recommend using baby detergent. I know it sounds weird, but there’s a method to the madness. Linen gets softer each time you wash it, and you don’t want harsh chemicals breaking down the fibers. So why not wash it using one of the most naturally soft detergents out there? I recommend Delft.
The key to linen is in its flax fiber. Different linens use different fiber plants depending on where they’re grown, so it’s essential to keep that in mind when choosing your cleaning products. For example, Europe grows their linen taller than they do in China. The taller the flax grows, the longer the thread will be, making it stronger and less prone to tearing. Conversely, the shorter the flax, the more inclined the linen will be to tears and punctures.
